Kennedy and Rhode Island Housing Team Up to Provide Free Foreclosure Help

October 16, 2008

Providence, RI - Following a series of successful workshops with Congressman Jim Langevin, Congressman Patrick Kennedy is teaming up with the Rhode Island Housing HelpCenter and its counseling partners to provide much-needed counseling sessions for Rhode Islanders facing foreclosure.

“We’re here to help,” says Richard Godfrey, Executive Director of Rhode Island Housing. “Every day, our HelpCenter counselors work with Rhode Islanders who are trying to avoid or cope with foreclosure. Thanks to the support of our Congressional delegation and our counseling partners, the upcoming workshop will provide more help for more Rhode Islanders in crisis. We will assess individual situations and provide counseling, resources and support to help them safely afford to keep their homes, or find a new home that meets their needs and fits their budget.”

“Too many homeowners are struggling to stay afloat in today’s current economic climate,” says Congressman Kennedy. “The good news is there are resources available to help Rhode Islanders avoid foreclosure. It is critical to seek assistance as soon as possible to determine all the available options and, just as important, to avoid unscrupulous offers that can further erode the chances to maintain a home. Rhode Island Housing’s counselors can provide much-needed assistance and work to ensure families are able to keep a safe roof over their heads.”

The next FREE workshop will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 18 at the CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln.
