Economic Development

Rahall Technology and Buisness Center, in Greenbrier County.

Congressman Rahall firmly believes that the keys to unlocking the economic promise and potential of southern West Virginia lie in the ‘Three T’s—transportation, technology, and tourism.  Proper investment in community infrastructure and economic development initiatives will attract new business, create new, high-paying jobs, and improve the overall strength and stability of southern West Virginia.

In 1995, Rahall established the Connected Technology Corridors (CTC) Initiative, which focuses on enabling economic growth in southern West Virginia through the development and expansion of high-speed telecommunications technology and other infrastructure, as well as training and marketing services that are needed to allow businesses to grow and communities to compete in the 21st century global marketplace.

Thus far, this public-private venture has established 490,000 square feet of technology buildings and 3,365 acres of business/technology parks that are in place, under construction, or in design, with more constantly in the works.

Congressman Rahall and the CTC Program have also been successful in rolling out broadband and DSL all over the Third District, with the ultimate goal of providing broadband service throughout southern West Virginia.

To assist in fostering new business development, Congressman Rahall has secured millions of dollars for the construction of new Technology Centers in Beckley, Hinton, Athens, and Summersville.  These facilities will play an integral role in bringing southern West Virginia’s communities, businesses, educational institutions, and entrepreneurs together to create jobs and sustain economic growth well into the future.
