Health Care

Access to affordable health care is one of the top challenges facing our Nation in the 21st century.  It is a problem that affects both the young and old alike.  It hits small businesses and forces them to make tough choices about the health care coverage they can afford to offer their employees.

The federal government has several programs that have been proved effective in providing health care to all aspects of society.  Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) expand health coverage to some of America's most vulnerable citizens.  In addition, Medicare is making a difference for many older Americans.  With enactment of the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, more people are taking advantage of the various benefits, such as lower prices and greater choices, which are offered.  But there is still much to be done.

Congressman Rahall has supported legislation to improve the quality of health care in America by strengthening the Medicare system, reducing the cost of prescription drugs, providing health insurance to our low-income children, funding cutting-edge research to find cures for diseases, and making health care coverage more affordable for the 46 million Americans without health insurance.

With increasing premiums, higher costs of living, and skyrocketing drug prices, now, more than ever, it is important that all citizens have access to quality medical care that's reliable and affordable.  Congressman Rahall is committed to working with local, state, and federal leaders to ensure that modern, high-quality health care services are available to all West Virginians, especially our children, our seniors, and our rural residents, who need them most.
