Visiting Washington, DC
GENERAL INFORMATION
If you are planning on visiting Washington, DC, I can often submit tour requests on your behalf to some of the more popular attractions in our nation's capital. Stringent security measures for many of these sites makes it difficult for me to guarantee approval of these requests. However, with the appropriate notice my staff will make every effort to help you make arrangements during your stay. This is a service provided to constituents residing in New York's 26th Congressional District.
HOW TO REQUEST A TOUR To request a tour, please fill out my Online Tour Request form by clicking here, or contact one of my offices.
For more information about the tours that are available, please read the information below.
TOURS THAT WE CAN HELP YOU ARRANGE
The United States Capitol Building Public tours of the Capitol are available Monday through Saturday. Tickets are required and are available at the kiosk located at the Garfield Traffic Circle on the West Front lawn of the Capitol, facing the Washington Monument. These tickets are for tours at specific times throughout the day, generally starting at 9 a.m. The Capitol building closes for tours at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are distributed on a first-come first-serve basis; one ticket per person. During busy visitor seasons, lines may form early, and arriving before 9 a.m. is recommended.
Groups of 40 or more, such as organized tour groups of students or veterans, may schedule tours led by the Capitol Guide Service months in advance by contacting my office.
On occasion, guided tours of the Capitol led by members of my staff may be arranged. These staff-led tours are scheduled on a limited basis, depending on availability and activities at the Capitol.
The House and/or Senate Galleries Constituents may view the House and Senate galleries while they are in session between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Passes can be obtained through my Washington D.C. office.
Tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 12noon. Due to security restrictions, White House tour availability is unfortunately very limited.
White House tours are provided only for groups of 10 or more. For groups smaller than 10, my office will attempt to combine your group with another.
Because White House tours are scheduled on a first come, first-served basis, I encourage you to make your request to my office as early as possible. Requests from my office can be submitted to the White House up to six months in advance. Please note that the White House does not schedule tours until approximately one month prior to the requested date.
For security purposes, White House tours cannot be scheduled within 10 days of the requested date.
