Dave Reichert: Focusing on 21st Century Health Care
Dave is committed to improving our health care system to provide affordable, better quality health care for children, families, seniors, and individuals. He believes in expanding access to coverage, improving the quality of care, and utilizing scientific advances to transform our health care system to focus on wellness and prevention. His efforts and accomplishments for health care include:
- Spearheaded an effort to increase funding for NIH medical research by $2 billion. Medical research plays a critical role in the search for cures to diseases and conditions like cancer, diabetes, and arthritis.
- Passed an amendment increasing funding by $2.5 million for children’s emergency medical services. This program provides grants to states and medical institutions to expand and improve emergency care for children who need treatment for life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
- Founded the bipartisan Congressional Children’s Health Care Caucus. The caucus advances legislative initiatives that provide access to health coverage, ensure preventative care, seek cures for debilitating diseases and chronic conditions, and promote healthy living habits for America’s children.
- Supported bipartisan legislation to renew the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
- Serves as one of 8 Members on the bipartisan Centrist Health Care Coalition, a House working group that examines a variety of health care reform proposals from presidential candidates, governors, and other policymakers.
- Serves as a member of the Special Olympics of Washington State Board of Directors.
