"For several years, I have attempted to gain bipartisan support for reforms that would provide our nation long-term energy security. What I have witnessed during this time is a highly troubling trend, whereby extreme views concerning fossil fuels have gained mainstream approval without rational debate or thoughtful analysis. Recognizing the need for complete facts as the American people confront record energy prices, I created this document." (read more in The Washington Report, In Search of Energy Freedom)

“Inexpensive and reliable access to energy is a driving indicator of technological development and growth around the world. In the United States, this has given us a significant advantage. As part of my effort to determine whether or not negotiators have crafted a deal that protects all of our interests, I have asked a lot of hard questions. This has frustrated those who expected the fanfare of a settlement to be followed by a rubber stamp in Congress. What I have discovered during this process is that in an effort to rush a deal through Congress, some of the settling parties have consistently misrepresented facts concerning their deal to farmers and the general public.

  • Rep. Nunes comments on the current SCHIP debate
    67.8 KBs

It is important to emphasize that SCHIP as we know it today has been extended and will continue to be extended until the political gamesmanship over whether middle income families and adults should be covered is resolved. In the meantime, despite what you may have heard, benefits are not being taken away from children.

At this time, our military leaders believe we are making progress and they have a plan to continue the development of Iraq’s security independence. More than any other civilization in the free world, we Americans should resist emotional and populist appeals that ignore science or reason. Alarmist tactics, including efforts to eliminate public discourse, are something we can not tolerate.

  • Rep. Nunes on 7/27/07 passage of the Farm Bill
    97.9 KBs

For Republicans, the Farm Bill vote had nothing to do with the merits of the underlying bill. Although I appreciate the hard work of my friends from the Central Valley on the Agriculture Committee who crafted good farm policy, today’s vote was necessary because of the abuse of power and heavy handed policies of Democrat leaders.

At this time, I am satisfied that our leaders have a plan to deal with the violence in Iraq and I support providing the funding necessary to execute it. At the same time, I remain concerned about the political situation in the country and am skeptical about whether or not Prime Minister al Maliki will be able to make the difficult decisions necessary to achieve long-term stability without a significant U.S. military presence.
