October 22, 2008 - Murtha Receives Public Policy Award from the Marshall Legacy Institute PDF  | Print |

WASHINGTON
, D.C.
-- Congressman John P. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, received the Public Policy Award from the Marshall Legacy Institute at the ‘11th Anniversary Clearing the Path Gala’ in Washington, D.C on October 21, 2008.

The Public Policy Award was established in 2002 to recognize policy makers who have enacted legislation to positively affect the national security of the United States and to enable the U.S. to assist those living in war-torn countries.  Previous recipients include Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE).

Congressman Murtha was presented with the award for his “unwavering commitment to a strong national defense and exemplary work on healthcare, military and veteran’s issues during his lifetime of remarkable public service.”

The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization founded in the 50th Anniversary Year of the Marshall Plan.  MLI works to extend the legacy of George C. Marshall into the 21st Century by providing war-torn, landmine-affected countries with the tools and training they need to help rebuild.
