I am pleased to make
available internship positions in my offices for students or other interested
individuals. As an intern, you can look forward to experiencing our
government in a very unique way. You will have the opportunity to be in
direct contact with my staff and myself that will provide an invaluable
learning experience.
Washington, DC
In my Washington office, you
may have the opportunity to help with constituent questions, assist legislative
aides, research pending issues in Congress, sit in on committee hearings,
perform support services, and give tours of the Capitol.
California
Internships are
also available in my district offices in Salinas
and Santa Cruz.
Tasks in these offices will include helping to respond to constituent
inquiries, preparing for events, providing staff support, and other support
services. This is a great opportunity to get in touch with the issues and
people that define the 17th Congressional District.
It is
important to note that all internships are unpaid and do not cover lodging or
transportation costs. For those unfamiliar with Washington, DC,
I can provide information on housing, transportation, and other local
interests. I welcome
interns throughout the year, but the schedules usually coincide with school
schedules (i.e., summer, fall, winter, spring). There are no set
deadlines, however, I encourage you to apply early, as spaces fill up quickly
with qualified applicants. There is a preference for individuals from the
district or the state of California,
however it is not required.
Application
To apply for an internship,
please submit the following to the Intern Coordinator at the appropriate
office.
- a resume
- a writing sample
- a college transcript (optional)
The selection process will
be based on these documents and personal or telephone interviews.
Interning can also open doors, personally and professionally, and you will find
it a memorable and worthwhile experience. I encourage all who are
interested to apply.
