6th Congressional District Profile

The 6th Congressional District of Indiana is as American as baseball and apple pie. This quintessential heartland district covers the east-central portion of the Hoosier state with rolling fields of corn and soybeans, dairy silos and hog barns. The district includes most of Indiana’s eastern border with Ohio and extends west toward the central part of the state.

However, the urban landscape does not escape this mostly rural district. It includes Muncie, made famous when it was dubbed “Middletown” by sociologists looking to study the typical American city, as well as Anderson, Richmond and parts of Columbus, Ft. Wayne and the Indiana suburbs of Cincinnati, OH.

As the proud home of Camp Atterbury, a 33,000-acre training site for the Indiana National Guard, the district plays a vital roll in U.S. national security interests. Camp Atterbury was the first National Guard facility activated to become a mobilization station for the war in Iraq.

Higher education is featured prominently in the district as it includes four universities: Ball State University, Anderson University, Indiana University-East and Earlham College.

The state of Indiana is renowned for its hospitality and the Sixth Congressional District is no exception. Whether you’re in one of its industry-driven cities or out in the far-reaching rural farmland, you’ll find that the Hoosier Heartland boasts some of the finest people and places anywhere.
