Favorite Artist: An amateur photographer myself, I have much respect for those who pioneered this field and in turn enacted social change inspired by the locations and events captured in their art.  Ansel Adams, a close friend and advisor, was a true visionary in his efforts and I was honored to have gained his confidence and approval regarding my own environmental efforts.  In my first state assembly campaign, I had the pleasure of working closely with Ansel Adams and I greatly appreciated his foresight in preserving our nation's scenery for future generations.  I encourage you to explore his collection of photographs and celebrate the timeless beauty of the images.

Favorite Experience: The most formative experience of my life was serving in the Peace Corps in Colombia from 1964-1966.  While in Colombia, I had the pleasure of educating members of the community on the value of petitioning their government to get valuable resources.  Though I brought the knowledge of our modern political system, I was forever enlightened by their will and dedication to improving their own community.  I have since carried this experience and insight with me through more than twenty-five years of public service.  I encourage you to investigate this as an option to enhance your own life.

Favorite Recipe:  From my kitchen to yours, I am delighted to share with you one of my favorite recipes.  Perfect for those cozy central coast evenings, Chile Blanco de Monterey will quickly become a favorite for your family.  And, it uses many locally harvested products!   Enjoy!

Favorite Website: With the impending deterioration of our ozone layer as well as other factors that are hazardous to our environment, I believe that the investigation of our climate and oceans is an important endeavor.  I appreciate the efforts made by FNMOC, the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center, to provide accurate information to the public and governmental agencies regarding the status of various natural forces.  Based on the Monterey Peninsula, the center provides valuable information to people around the world regarding the weather, tidal patterns, and even surf conditions.   I hope that you will take full advantage of this educational resource and research information pertinent to your location.
