SNOWE, COLLINS, MICHAUD URGE NATIONAL EMERGENCY GRANT ASSISTANCE FOR KATAHDIN PAPER MILL WORKERS (9/29/08) WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins and Representative Mike Michaud today sent a letter to Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao requesting that she approve the State of Maine’s request for National Emergency Grant (NEG) assistance for the displaced workers at Katahdin Paper Company in Millinocket.  The Katahdin mill was forced to close its doors recently due to increased imports and competition from foreign paper producers.

Michaud Announces $1.1 million in Federal Funding for Alternative Fuel Vehicles for use in Acadia National Park (9/25/08) WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Federal Transit Administration has awarded the Maine Department of Transportation $1,096,500 for the Island Explorer transit system to replace six of their seventeen propane buses that serve Acadia National Park and surrounding communities.

Michaud Praises Passage of Massive Increase in Funding for LIHEAP (9/24/08) WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud voted in favor of H.R. 2638, The Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2009.  This bill contains $5.1 billion for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), fully funding the program as currently authorized.  Michaud has called repeatedly for this level of funding. The bill now goes to the Senate for final approval.

Michaud Secures Critical Economic Development Funds for Projects in Maine in Appropriations Bill (9/24/08) WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Michaud voted in favor of H.R. 2638, The Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2009.  The bill contains funding that Michaud helped to secure for projects in Maine. H.R. 2638 now goes to the Senate for final approval.

Snowe, Collins, Michaud Praise Trade Adjustment Assistance Approval for Katahdin Paper Mill Workers (9/19/08) WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins and Representative Mike Michaud today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has granted Trade Adjustment Assistance for 208 workers who were permanently displaced from their jobs at Katahdin Paper Co. mill in Millinocket.  The Katahdin mill was forced to close its doors on September 2, 2008, due to increased imports and competition from foreign paper producers.
