Kennedy, Kerry, McGovern Announce $33,924 Grant to Plainville Fire Department
Thursday November 13, 2008Senators Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry and Representative James P. McGovern announced today that the Plainville Fire Department, in Plainville, MA, has been awarded a federal grant of $33,924 under the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program. The funds will be used to purchase equipment such as coats, boots, pants, and helmets.
Melissa Wagoner, spokeswoman for Senator Edward M. Kennedy said, “The Senator is delighted that the Plainville Fire Department is receiving this grant. These funds will enable the department to serve its community more effectively with up-to-date equipment.”
"This funding will allow Chief Joubert and the Plainville Fire Department to respond more effectively to emergency situations in the community, improving the safety of both residents and firefighters," Senator Kerry said. "I commend DHS for giving the Plainville Fire Department the resources necessary to perform their very important job."
“I’m very pleased that Plainville will be receiving this funding,” Rep. McGovern said. “I believe that homeland security starts with hometown security. Chief Joubert and his team are being properly recognized for their outstanding work. It’s critical that we provide local first responders with the resources they need to protect our communities. The federal government must be a partner in that effort. I will continue to be a strong supporter of this Assistance to Firefighter Grant program, and I’ll work to maintain its funding in Congress.”
The program is designed to strengthen our country’s preparation for fire-related emergencies and to improve the safety of fire personnel and the public at-large in dealing with these emergencies.
