(October 3, 2008) “Today, I am voting against the latest Wall Street bailout bill, a bill that has grown in size and scope to $850 billion.  From 3 pages to 110 pages to over 450 pages of legislation, this bill proves the old adage still holds true.  Bigger isn’t necessarily better.

Bill Creates American Jobs and Makes Critical Investments in Infrastructure and Transit

Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) helped pass the Job Creation and Unemployment Relief Act (H.R. 7110), a second economic stimulus package that aims to boost America's lagging economy and create good paying American jobs.

"American families continue to experience great economic hardships," said Rep. Lipinski.  "Unemployment is the highest it has been since 1992 with the economy losing 605,000 jobs this year alone.  At the same time, it is estimated that the United States is in need of a $1.6 trillion investment in the next five years to replace aging infrastructure.  For nearly a year, I have made the case that an economic stimulus package should include investments in public infrastructure.  Investment in infrastructure is win-win for all Americans-funding is spent on projects that are desperately needed and good-paying jobs that cannot be exported are created."

To Those Who Gave Their Lives

September 11, 2001

Rep. Lipinski took the above picture in Shanksville, PA at site of crash of
Flight 93 that was bravely taken down by passengers on 9/11.

On the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I would like to take a moment to remember those who lost their lives on that fateful day.  From the first responders who so valiantly gave their lives in service of our country, to those we lost aboard United Airlines Flights 175 and 93 and American Airlines Flights 11 and 77, to the individuals in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; my heart goes out to their families and loved ones.  We will never forget the horrors that occurred that day.

I would also like to take this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to protecting the American people at home and abroad.  We must ensure that this tragedy will never be repeated.

"Chicago has the transportation infrastructure in place to host the 2016 Olympics, but the state and federal government must close funding gaps now to enhance a future bid, according to testimony at a congressional committee hearing Monday. Regional transportation leaders including CTA chief Ron Huberman addressed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which was interrupted by protesters angry over impending Chicago Transit Authority fare hikes and service cuts because of lack of funding from the state Legislature. Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D-Ill.), a committee member, said the crisis involving mass transit in the Chicago region will be solved soon and should not affect the city attracting the Olympics."
