Tickets to the Inaugural Ceremonies for President-Elect Barack Obama | |||
Since November 5th, I have received thousands of requests from constituents for tickets to the Inauguration Ceremonies in January. Please know that congressional offices are only allotted a small number of reserved tickets. In order to address the demand in a fair and equitable manner, my office will be conducting a random lottery for 100 of the tickets allotted. Fifty pairs of two tickets (a total of 100 tickets) will be drawn from the total requests received by my office as of midnight on November 30, 2008. These tickets are intended for and will be promised only to constituents of the 14th Congressional District. You will receive notification from my office by December 15, 2008 as to whether or not you have been selected to receive tickets.
While there are a very limited number of reserved tickets that will be made available, it is my understanding there will be unreserved viewing areas along the National Mall served by video screens, enabling those without tickets to participate in the event. Some observers have predicted an unprecedented turnout of up to 4 million people on Inauguration Day. While this level of interest and excitement is truly a reason to celebrate, the details of how the number of people expected to attend without reserved tickets will best be accommodated are currently being worked out.
