Request Tickets to the 56th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Tickets to the 56th Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies is responsible for all inaugural events at the U.S. Capitol. This committee has allotted my office 177 tickets for the public to attend the Inaugural Ceremonies. This event will take place on January 20, 2009. Because of the large number of requests my office has received, I will not have enough tickets to grant every request. At this time, I have received over 800 ticket requests, so my office is no longer taking new requests. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis from the list of requests that have already been placed. You may call either of my congressional offices if you have any questions about this process.

The public should also be aware that no website or other ticket outlet actually has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, regardless of what they may claim.

If you are planning to travel to D.C. during the time of the Inauguration, there are a few things to take into consideration. First, I would suggest making travel arrangements as soon as possible, as flights and hotels are booking up quickly. Also, be advised that the Inaugural Ceremonies are held outdoors and all tickets distributed by my office are standing-only tickets. This event is historically cold and wet. The crowds will be very large, and guests will likely be outside for at least three hours. Children and elderly individuals are strongly discouraged from attending because of these conditions.

While you’re in town, you might be interested in taking a tour of the Capitol building. To schedule a tour, please contact Brenda Plantikow in my D.C. office at 202-225-4155 or brenda.plantikow@mail.house.gov.

My office does not receive public tickets to any official balls, galas, receptions or the Inaugural Day parade. These tickets are distributed by the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC). Visit www.change.gov for more information.
