Congressman Lee Terry Honored with Manufacturers’ Award

Nebraska Congressman Earns 100% Voting Score With NAM for 2008

OMAHA Nebraska’s Second District Congressman Lee Terry was honored Wednesday, Oct. 29, by the nation’s largest manufacturing association and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry for his support of a pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda.

Rep. Terry was presented with the National Association of Manufacturers’ (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence at the headquarters of Union Pacific.  The NAM award is presented to members of Congress who achieve a rating of 70% or better on key votes affecting the U.S. manufacturing industry and its workers.

In the most recent session of Congress, Rep. Terry received a 100% rating from NAM.  In his comments during the award presentation, Terry said he was honored to receive the NAM award.  “As goes the manufacturing sector, goes America and the middle class,” Rep. Terry said.

This year’s NAM scorecard includes important Congressional votes on issues such as an attempt by labor union leaders to eliminate secret ballot elections for employees in the workplace.  Other key votes include increased funding for education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as several efforts to expand the nation’s domestic energy supply.

“Nebraska members of Congress have consistently earned high marks for their representation of the state’s manufacturing community,” said Barry L. Kennedy, president of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry.  “Congressman Terry, through his consistent voting record, has demonstrated his commitment to growing Nebraska’s economy and keeping good manufacturing-related jobs in our state.  His perfect voting record with NAM is proof that the congressman is working hard to ensure the Omaha area continues to be an economic driver of the Midwest.”

The State Chamber is an affiliate of NAM and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which both track federal legislation impacting the profitability and competitiveness of the business community.

The NAM award is not a political endorsement, but it does present an opportunity for local manufacturers to positively recognize lawmakers who consistently support the pro-manufacturing agenda.

The State Chamber is Nebraska's largest statewide business association, representing individuals, large and small companies, other state associations and local chambers of commerce.  With an underlying grassroots membership of more than 100,000 people, the State Chamber has served as the voice of Nebraska’s business community more than 96 years.
