Knollenberg Fights for the Big Three and a New Michigan Economy
Heralds Auto Loans Inclusion in Continuing Resolution
Washington,
Sep 24 -
Congressman Joe Knollenberg (MI-09) today issued the following statement regarding the $25 billion in low-interest loans for the Big Three automakers to retool their plants.
“It wasn't easy getting to this point, but with hard work from my friends and colleagues from Michigan, we were able to achieve this important point.
“Some will lump this in with the other bailouts this Congress is considering. They would be wrong. This is about building a partnership - about working together toward an end goal we all seek - more fuel efficient vehicles built in Michigan and throughout the United States.
“Our automakers are now going to receive a partnering hand from Washington, not just a burdensome mandate.
“This will help create good jobs in Michigan, especially in the high-tech field of alternative energy research. Michigan first put the world on wheels, and Michigan can put the world on wheels propelled by the next generation of alternative fuel vehicles.”
