Seniors

After working their entire lifetimes, seniors have earned the right to enjoy their golden years with the peace of mind that comes from a secure retirement nest egg. Congressman Knollenberg is a strong supporter of Social Security, Medicare, and other programs that help supplement seniors’ savings. Efforts to weaken these programs must be defeated in Congress.

Medicare has proven to be overwhelmingly popular and Congressman Knollenberg supports improving how the program serves seniors. The addition of a prescription drug benefit has given millions of senior citizens access to life-saving drugs. Additional access to coverage and treatments is one of the congressman’s top goals in the future.

Social Security has also served millions of seniors since its creation seventy years ago. We cannot, however, ignore the fact that Social Security must be strengthened so its promise is upheld for our children and grandchildren. Congressman Knollenberg has outlined several principals that must guide any effort to preserve, protect and strengthen Social Security. He believes that taxes should not be increased and that benefits should not be reduced. Congressman Knollenberg believes that any Social Security reform proposal must guarantee existing benefits for current retirees or near-retirees, and it must preserve the disability and survivors' components.

Congressman Knollenberg will be working to strengthen the nation’s primary retirement programs while continuing to support efforts to allow the American people to save more of their hard earned money in vehicles like IRAs and 401Ks.
