Veterans

As a senior member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, improving the quality of life for our nation's veterans has been one of my top priorities. I have advocated for improving the benefits and health care veterans deserve for protecting our country. I serve on the Subcommittees on Health and on the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. The Subcommittee on Health oversees the health care system for the Department of Veterans' Affairs (VA), which serves nearly 250,000 veterans in Kansas.

During my time in Congress, I have been a strong supporter of improved veterans' heath care benefits and have worked to see that veterans receive full concurrent receipt of their disability compensation and retirement pay. I have also worked to bring health care services closer to home by securing more community-based outpatient clinics in Kansas. At a time when thousands of troops are returning from battle, and the needs of aging veterans are increasing, Congress must provide the resources to the VA so it can meet the needs of veterans. I am committed to keeping our promise to those who have served our country.
