House Page Program

The U.S. House of Representatives' Page Program offers high school juniors the unique opportunity to experience Congress in action and assist with official House duties. Pages work as a team delivering materials to Members' offices, preparing the House Floor for sessions and answering phones in the Members' Cloakroom. As a Page, students are in a rare position to learn firsthand about the House of Representatives' role in lawmaking.

In addition to working for the House of Representatives, Pages also further their education by taking high school classes in core subjects like math and English. Classes are held in the historic Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, across the street from the United States Capitol. Pages live together in the House Page Residence Hall.

Students wishing to be a Page must be in their junior year of high school and have at least a 3.0 GPA on four major courses, no electives. Students must also be at least 16 years old by the beginning of the Page term. There are no exceptions to the academic or age requirements.

The appointment process begins by receiving a nomination from a Member of Congress. The Speaker of the House and the Republican Leader then make final decisions on which students become Pages.

I am happy to recommend qualified Kansas students to the Republican Leader to be appointed as Pages. I was recently notified that I am able to submit two applications to the Republican Leader for consideration for the Spring 2009 session. If you have questions, please contact me in my Washington, D.C. office at 202-225-2715.
