May 21, 2008

WARREN, N.J. – Rep. Mike Ferguson, R-N.J., announced that 17-year-old Sara Fischer of Watchung won first place in his annual 7th Congressional District art competition.

Sara’s winning art, “Medals,” was created using colored pencils. Ferguson said Sara’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol with other winning entries from districts nationwide.

Sara is a senior at Watchung Hills Regional High School, and she will study art and political science at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., beginning this fall. She is the daughter of Stuart and Doreen Fischer of Watchung.

“Sara is a very talented young person,” Ferguson said. “The congressional art competition is vigorous, and Sara should be very proud of her talents and efforts.”

Each year, Ferguson hosts the competition for all 7th District high school students and he enlists the help of art leaders in New Jersey to serve as judges for the special event.

More than 20 students participated in this year’s art competition.
