  • The South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department received a $106,079 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase 54 new fire suits, or “turnout gear,” for the 50-member volunteer force.

  • The South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department received a $144,364 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase 35 new air packs and other protective equipment for the department’s firefighters.
  • Congressman Ferguson presented Abubakr Sadiq of South Plainfield with service medals earned during World War II by his late father, Leroy Holman. A staff sergeant in the Army, Holman served on Guadalcanal during World War II. Originally from Colonia, Holman was the father of two children and owned an automobile repair shop and gas station in Edison. Sadiq followed his father in the military, serving as an Army specialist in Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart. “I’m thankful to be able to receive my father’s medals, which he would have been so proud to have,” Sadiq said. “I sincerely thank Congressman Ferguson and his staff for helping me get these medals.”
  • Congressman Ferguson voted to provide South Plainfield public schools with more than $355,000 in federal elementary and secondary education aid in fiscal year 2007. Congressman Ferguson has voted to increase federal education funding for New Jersey schools by more than 33 percent since 2001.
  • Congressman Ferguson voted to reduce taxes for South Plainfield residents, including doubling the child tax credit to $1,000, reducing the marriage penalty faced by two-income families, making college expenses tax deductible, reducing taxes on capital gains and dividends, and reducing all tax brackets to benefit every worker in South Plainfield.
