  • The Union Township Fire Department received a $15,040 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase personal radiation monitors and radiological response equipment for its firefighters.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to provide Union Township public schools with more than $688,000 in federal elementary and secondary education aid in fiscal year 2007. Congressman Ferguson has voted to increase federal education funding for New Jersey schools by more than 33 percent since 2001.

  •  Congressman Ferguson announced that Nerissa Tutivien, a senior at Union High School in Union County, won the annual high school 7th District Congressional Art Competition. Nerissa’s photograph, entitled “Mis Reflejos,” or “My Reflections,” was displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Nerissa said the painting is a self-portrait featuring her Puerto Rican heritage.

  •  Congressman Ferguson secured congressional approval of $250,000 for Union County College’s Community Learning Center.

  • Congressman Ferguson secured congressional approval of $800,000 for Kean University in Union Township to establish an Institute for Foreign Service and Diplomacy and a Global Studies Internship Program. University Provost Livingston Alexander said, “Kean is deeply indebted to Mike Ferguson and his staff for their effectiveness.”
