  • Congressman Ferguson secured $320,000 to replace the Prospect Avenue bridge in Summit.

  • Congressman Ferguson voted to reduce taxes for Summit residents, including doubling the child tax credit to $1,000, reducing the marriage penalty faced by two-income families, making college expenses tax deductible, reducing taxes on capital gains and dividends, and reducing all tax brackets to benefit every worker in Summit.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to increase the Medicare reimbursement rate for Overlook Hospital in Summit, boosting federal reimbursements by $22.7 million for the hospital’s treatment of Medicare beneficiaries. Overlook Hospital is non-profit hospital with 504 beds and more than 1,100 attending physicians.

  •  The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad received a $19,800 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to protect the health and safety of the squad’s emergency personnel. The First Aid Squad serves more than 21,000 residents in Summit, and the squad includes 79 active members and responds to 2,000 calls annually.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to provide Summit public schools with more than $295,000 in federal elementary and secondary education aid in fiscal year 2007. Congressman Ferguson has voted to increase federal education funding for New Jersey schools by more than 33 percent since 2001.

  •  The Summit Fire Department received a $52,650 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase a 35-foot fire safety education trailer as part of a public education effort to demonstrate fire prevention practices. The trailer features “rooms” to simulate fire hazards in homes, and it makes stops at local schools to demonstrate how best to protect your home from fire and create an emergency escape plan at home.
