Mountainside

  •  Congressman Ferguson announced that Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside received a $212,672 grant to train doctors who specialize in pediatric care. Amy Mansue, the hospital’s president, said: “Congressman Ferguson has been the person we go to and is our voice in Washington. We’re grateful that when we turned to Congressman Ferguson for help, he delivered for the children we serve.”

  •  The Mountainside Volunteer Fire Department received a $69,417 grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase a dual-fuel generator to replace an antiquated diesel-fuel generator. The Mountainside firehouse serves as a community shelter during emergencies. Borough fire official George McGrath said, “We appreciate Congressman Ferguson’s longstanding support for Mountainside and his commitment to obtaining important federal funding for our local fire department.”

  •  Congressman Ferguson announced that Tess Perrin of Mountainside was selected as the 2006 winner of the 7th Congressional District Arts Competition. Her charcoal self portrait was selected among dozens of other entries submitted by students throughout the 7th District, which includes portions of Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset and Union counties. Tess graduated from Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights, and her self portrait was displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.

  •  Congressman Ferguson secured congressional approval of $190,000 to expand outpatient services of Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside. Children’s Specialized is the nation’s largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital.

  •  Congressman Ferguson secured long-overdue military service medals for Martin Hochadel of Mountainside for his service during World War II. Congressman Ferguson presented Hochadel with the medals during a ceremony that featured more than 120 elementary school children from Deerfield Elementary School looking on. “Martin Hochadel is a patriot and a hero, and I’m honored to present him with these medals on behalf of a grateful nation,” Congressman Ferguson.
