  • The Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department received a $13,238 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to clean toxins and other pollutants from their equipment.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to provide Kenilworth public schools with more than $175,000 in federal elementary and secondary education aid in fiscal year 2007. Congressman Ferguson has voted to increase federal education funding for New Jersey schools by more than 33 percent since 2001.

  •  When Congressman Ferguson introduced legislation to more than double federal funding for public school students with special needs, he made the announcement at the Harding School in Kenilworth. Congressman Ferguson’s bill would mandate special education funding and ensure the federal government meets its pledge of financing 40 percent of the cost of special education. At the time of Congressman Ferguson’s announcement, 145 borough students, or 15 percent of the total of 993, qualified for funding under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

  •  The Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department received a $24,804 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to replace its backup generator, ensuring uninterrupted power at its headquarters in the event of an electrical outage. The firehouse serves as a public shelter for senior citizens and others during emergencies or power outages.

  •  Congressman Ferguson participated in the ceremony and parade honoring Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2230, which marked 75 years of serving veterans in Kenilworth in 2006.
