Garwood

  • The Garwood Fire Department received a $75,317 first-responder grant from the Homeland Security Department to purchase new safety equipment.

  •  Congressman Ferguson announced that several Union County programs, including in Garwood, received $4 million in housing and homeless assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding helps underwrite programs that assist in transitional housing, permanent housing and a variety of supportive services.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to provide Garwood public schools with more than $47,000 in federal elementary and secondary education aid in fiscal year 2007. Congressman Ferguson has voted to increase federal education funding for New Jersey schools by more than 33 percent since 2001.

  •  Congressman Ferguson voted to reduce taxes for Garwood residents, including doubling the child tax credit to $1,000, reducing the marriage penalty faced by two-income families, making college expenses tax deductible, reducing taxes on capital gains and dividends, and reducing all tax brackets to benefit every worker in Garwood.
