Issue-Immigration

There are an estimated 10 million illegal immigrants in the United States, so illegal immigration is a big problem, not just for job competition, but for homeland security.  We need to better enforce our current immigration laws and continue to expand our border/airport /port control.  With this in mind, I voted in favor of H.R. 1, Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act of 2007.

In 2006, I voted for the toughest immigration reform bill to pass the U.S. House of Representatives ---H.R. 6061, The Secure Fence Act of 2006.  This legislation increased border security by adding new border agents, new physical barriers on our borders and implements widespread, state of the art surveillance technology.  I also supported the REAL ID Act, H.R. 418, which requires states like North Carolina to require driver's license applicants to prove they are in the country legally.

I am opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens and I am opposed to the immigration legislation that was originally introduced in the Senate in 2007, S. 1348.
