InternshipsEach Semester and during the summer months, I offer internships in my Congressional offices to individuals who are interested in advancing their education. These internships provide an excellent opportunity for a firsthand look at the legislative process in action. The purpose of my internship program is to offer college students and recent college graduates an opportunity to witness and participate in the day-to-day operations of a Congressional office. Internships are a great way to learn about the functions of a congressional office, and also learn about my duties as a member of Congress representing North Carolina's Eighth District.
Interns who work in the Washington office carry out a combination of administrative duties. While some responsibilities are clerical in nature, there are opportunities to conduct substantive research, participate in staff meetings, and attend Congressional hearings.
Washington interns spend the summer living in the nation's capitol, and working in the shadow of our national monuments. Few college students ever have jobs with the excitement and educational opportunities that a Congressional internship offers. It is hard work, but for those not afraid of a challenge, there is nothing else like it.
