Welcome to the 8th Congressional District
Biography 

Presently serving his 5th term in Congress, Robin Hayes is a businessman with a personal background of community involvement and public service. He represents the 8th Congressional District of North Carolina. The 8th District includes the whole counties of Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Montgomery, and Stanly – and portions of Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Union and Cumberland Counties.

 

Congressman Hayes serves on three House Committees: Agriculture (Ranking member of the Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Subcommittee and also serving on the Specialty Crops Subcommittee, and the Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy and Research), Transportation and Infrastructure (serving on the Highway and Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee,  the Aviation Subcommittee, and the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee), and Armed Services (Serving on the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, and the Readiness Subcommittee). He pursued these committee assignments because of their direct importance to the people and the economy of the 8th District. Congressman Hayes also serves as the founding Co-Chairman of the Special Operations Forces Caucus, Co-Chairman of the Philanthropy Caucus, past Co-Chairman of the Sportsman’s Caucus and he is an Assistant Whip in the House leadership.

 

A native of North Carolina, Robin Hayes was born on August 14, 1945 in his hometown of Concord. He earned a degree in History from Duke University in 1967. Upon graduation, he began a career in business that has ranged from textiles to trucking.

 

In Congress, he has established himself as a leader in Washington who is always thinking of his District and North Carolina. Since entering Congress in 1999, he has worked to promote economic development and job growth; protect our family farms and agriculture; strengthen our military forces and care for our troops; improve transportation infrastructure in the state; expand health care for our veterans and seniors; and improve education by increasing technology in our classrooms.

 

Robin and his wife Barbara have been married for 40 years and have two children: Winslow Galloway who resides in Boone, NC with her husband, Lonnie -- and Bob who resides in Charlotte with his wife, Heather. Robin and Barbara are members of First Presbyterian Church of Concord.  They are proud to have five grandchildren.
