U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1.96 million to the Gateway Community Action Agency located in West Liberty, Kentucky. The Head Start program provides child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. This national initiative also promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The Gateway Community Action Agency Head Start program serves 409 children in Bath, Menifee, Morgan, Rowan, and Montgomery Counties.
“Providing children with the proper resources at an early age is critical to shaping their future. We are wise to make a sound investment in our children and get them started on the road to success,” said Rogers. “The Gateway Community Action Agency has effectively administered the Head Start Program since 1974 and this new funding acknowledges their marked success. I am pleased to see this funding go to Gateway to help ensure more young people – our region’s most valuable asset – receive critical attention to head off future learning challenges and not be left behind.”
As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Rogers works to secure funding for important initiatives in the fifth Congressional district.
