Federal Housing Assistance Funds Coming to Eastern Kentucky
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a $348,850 grant to the Kentucky Housing Corporation for the construction and rehabilitation of homes in eastern Kentucky.

Federal Funds Headed to Perry and Harlan Counties to Assist Homeless
Friday, October 31, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $316,267 to the Kentucky Mountain Health Alliance to coordinate and provide primary health care and additional services geared toward homeless individuals in Perry and Harlan counties.
Over $42 Million in USDA Electric Loans Approved for Cooperatives in Kentucky
Friday, October 24, 2008 - U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Rural Development (USDA-RD) has approved $42,607,000 in electricity investment loans to three cooperatives in Southern and Eastern Kentucky. These low-cost federal loans provides for infrastructure investments to enhance utility services throughout the Commonwealth.
Nearly $2 Million in Head Start Funds Headed to the Gateway Community Action Agency
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $1.96 million to the Gateway Community Action Agency located in West Liberty, Kentucky. The Head Start program provides child development services to economically disadvantaged children and families, with a special focus on helping preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school. This national initiative also promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families. The Gateway Community Action Agency Head Start program serves 409 children in Bath, Menifee, Morgan, Rowan, and Montgomery Counties.
Over $1.5 million headed to Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - U.S. Representative Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that $1.5 million in federal funds has been released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency. $137,200 in HUD funds will off-set construction costs for the organization’s new one-stop job training center and office building in Pineville, Kentucky. These funds, under the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) program at HUD, were obtained by Rogers in the 2008 Housing spending bill. In addition, HHS has awarded a $1,402,531 grant to the Agency to administer the Head Start program in these two counties.
10.20.08 Kentucky Highlands Designated for $10 million in New Markets Tax Credit Authority
Monday, October 20, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers announced today that the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Community Develop Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund has selected London-based Kentucky Highlands Investment Corporation (KHIC) to receive $10 million in New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation authority.  Established in December 2000, the NMTC Program provides individual and corporate taxpayers with a credit against federal income taxes for making qualified equity investments in designated Community Development Entities (CDEs).  Kentucky Highlands, a designated CDE, in turn makes financing available to local businesses and community activities to create jobs and expand business operations.
Rogers Announces Water Treatment Funding for City of Loyall
Tuesday, October 07, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $300,000 to the City of Loyall for the first phase of a two-phase Wastewater Line Replacement Project to rehabilitate the town’s sewer collection system. This phase of the project aims to improve water treatment service for 102 residents and 10 businesses in the old Loyall area by replacing an inadequate Combined Sewer Outfall (CSO) system with a new system that carries only wastewater. Combined with $450,000 in other federal, state and local funds, the project is projected to cost approximately $750,000 in total.
Rogers Announces Funding for Rural Telehealth Program
Tuesday, October 07, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $385,955 to Lexington-based Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation to enhance and expand its rural mobile telemedicine and public health network. These funds will enable the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation to expand its existing multi-county mental health, nutritional and diabetes prevention program to schools and medical facilities in eight more rural counties, including Floyd, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Knott and Owsley counties.
Federal Funding for Southeast Community and Technical College Released
Monday, October 06, 2008 - Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has released a $94,352 grant to Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) to purchase two digital x-ray machines. Rogers secured this funding as a part of the FY08 Omnibus Appropriations Act, signed into law on December 27, 2007
