August 1, 2008 - Fuel Prices: A Simple Solution - By Hal Rogers
It’s simple economics. Gas prices are high because world-wide demand for oil has increased while global supply has stayed at a near steady state. Logic will tell you that if you increase the supply, prices will come down. Yet, OPEC, the world oil cartel has been slow to increase the supply of oil.

July 16, 2008 - With the Shot Clock Running Down, the Ball is in Speaker Pelosi’s Court - by Hal Rogers
My many years as a UK basketball fan have been filled with ups and downs, with glory and defeat. Thinking on the high gas prices we’re all paying—the most critical issue facing families in the 5th Congressional district—I cannot help but be reminded of an important lesson I’ve learned from our beloved Wildcats – if you’ve got the ball with 10 seconds left on the shot clock, and the game tied, you’ve got to make a move...

June 27, 2008 - The Road to Lower Gas Prices - By Hal Rogers
High gas prices are crippling all Americans, but especially those of us who live in rural areas where we sometimes have to drive long distances to work. A recent New York Times (June 9, 2008) article indicates working families and seniors in our region are spending as much as 16% of their take home pay for gasoline. This makes for tough choices between a gallon of milk and a gallon of gas, or between filling a medical prescription and filling up the tank. I don’t believe it has to be that way. We can bring gas prices down...

June 19, 2008 - Audio Statement Concerning Gasoline Prices

June 19, 2008 - Text of Audio Statement Concerning Gasoline Prices
"People in Southern and Eastern Kentucky are being hit even harder by high gasoline prices than the rest of the country – because being in a rural area we must commute further, and our income levels are lower. Consequently, in our region nearly 16 percent of take home pay is going in the gas tank – compared to just 2 percent for speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco constituents. That’s why I’m working overtime to bring down high gas prices..."

As the price of oil continues ever higher into uncharted territory, people are increasingly fed up, and rightly so. Since January of 2007, gasoline has gone up $1.50 while Congress fiddles around renaming post offices and making it extremely difficult to fund our troops overseas.
