Congressman Hinojosa is an advocate for the federal programs that America's seniors depend upon. He strongly believes that Social Security and Medicare are promises of health and quality of life for the elderly. That is why he has spent his four terms in Congress fighting to strengthen and preserve these programs.

Congressman Hinojosa has been fighting for the retirement security of Texas teachers. Recently, President Bush signed into law a bill that forces teachers and other public servants out of their jobs 5 years early in order to collect Social Security benefits. Congressman Hinojosa believes that teachers should not have to choose between a secure retirement and a career educating young Texans. He is fighting for the passage of legislation that will repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset. Hinojosa will continue to fight to make sure that Congress keeps its promises to seniors.

Congressman Hinojosa believes that America's seniors deserve a guaranteed, comprehensive prescription drug benefit within the Medicare program. That is far from what was passed in the Medicare bill of 2003. The new law, which does not provide a prescription benefit for another two years, has a huge gap in coverage for seniors. Hinojosa knows that seniors need a plan that will save them money, not cost them more in premiums and higher deductibles.

Congressman Hinojosa also knows that seniors fighting cancer need access to community cancer care, especially in rural and medically underserved areas. However, the new Medicare law threatens the future of such clinics by cutting billions in oncology reimbursements. Additionally, the new law squanders the opportunity to lower the prescription drug costs for every American. It is for these reasons that Congressman Hinojosa is fighting to repeal the new Medicare law and replace it with one that gives seniors the benefits and security they deserve.

Hinojosa will continue to fight for Medicare and Social Security, ensuring their ability to serve future generations. He is committed to the disabled, disadvantaged, and the retirees that depend on these hugely successful programs.
