Social Security

As your Congressman, I am committed to keeping Social Security strong. Millions of Americans have invested in this system in good faith, and any plan to reduce benefits to current retirees or raises the retirement age is unacceptable. Social Security represents a promise to our nation’s seniors, and we must keep it. In addition, I oppose the creation of private retirement accounts, which I believe will drain money that is badly needed to help maintain the current system.  Experts predict that the proposed private accounts would take nearly $5 trillion dollars from the Social Security trust fund, and would require massive new borrowing that would drive up the national debt.  Social Security is the cornerstone of our nation’s commitment to our parents and grandparents, and I am committed to protecting the Social Security system and preserving it for future generations.
