New Passport Rules & Issues

UPDATE: Please click here and read the following information if you have already or are considering applying for a passport for any travel.

UPDATE 2: Refunds available for some Passport applicants

Travelers who paid $60 for expedited service and did not receive their passport on an expedited basis should request a refund by writing to the following address:

Department of State
Passport Services/PPS/Refunds
2100 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20037-3202.

The refund request should include the applicant's passport number (if available), name, date and place of birth, approximate date of the passport application, a mailing address and telephone number.

The department will not refund the regular passport application and execution fees, which total $97 for new passports and $67 for renewals for adults age 16 and older. Different fees apply to those under age 16. For details, visit the State Department Website.

------------------------------

The passport agencies are currently experiencing high volumes of passport applications due to new travel regulations. I encourage you to apply for your passports early to ensure that you receive them in time for your trip. Currently, normal processing time is approximately 10-12 weeks. If you are traveling within 10 weeks and have still not applied for your passport, I strongly encourage you to pay the expedite fee. Expedited processing time is approximately 2-3 weeks.

If you are traveling in the next 2 weeks and have still not received your passport, please call my District Office at (801) 851-2500 with your full name, date of birth, social security number, passport locator number, and date of departure. My staff would be happy to contact the passport agency on your behalf and see what we can do to help you get your passport in time for your trip. For more passport information, please visit the State Department website at travel.state.gov.
