Small Step in the Right Direction |
July 24, 2008 Today I voted for a good faith short-term effort to help lower gas prices by immediately making more supply available to Americans. The legislation directs the Energy Department to release 70 million barrels of light-sweet crude oil and replace that with an equal amount of heavy-sour crude. It is available for release today and is a swap of one resource for another, providing an immediate release of supply that can quickly be refined. By providing this boost to supply, albeit small, we will hopefully positively impact the price of gasoline. Every little bit counts. I will continue to push full speed ahead in support of compromise energy policy to wean ourselves off foreign oil and reverse energy practices that are hurting our economy, national security, health, and environment. |
