Recognizing our Vietnam Veterans: The Moving Wall Comes to the First DistrictAs your Representative in Washington, I have had the honor to meet with many veterans who have made the trip from the South Carolina 1st District to Washington, DC to visit the memorials commemorating their sacrifice. During my conversations with them, I have been heartened as they not only tell me how important it was for them to make the visit, but also how they wish all veterans could do the same. To pay tribute to those Americans who served our country during the Vietnam War era and honor those who made the supreme sacrifice during the Vietnam War, I have arranged to have the Moving Wall, a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial displayed in the First Congressional District of South Carolina this Fall. The Moving Wall will be located at the North Charleston Coliseum in Parking Lot B and will be on display from October 16 until October 20, 2008. This is a rare opportunity for veterans and their families who may not be able to make a trip to Washington, DC, to experience the “connection” of having visited the Wall and remembering the service and sacrifice of friends and loved ones. On Saturday October 18th starting at 10:30 AM, I will be hosting a special ceremony inside the Coliseum to recognize all of our Vietnam Era Veterans who served in any branch of service during this time. As part of the Moving Wall’s visit, we would also like to reach out to the families of those who lost their lives in service to our Country so that we may honor their sacrifice, and the families of those who have passed away since the Vietnam War. Veterans (or their families) will be recognized throughout the Moving Wall's visit and will also recieve a special "Certificate of Congressional Recognition."
