10/2/2008 Boswell Announces Grant to Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa For Immediate Release To Receive $199,250 from the Department of Education Washington, DC – Congressman Leonard Boswell today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $199,250 to Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa (GCI) in Des Moines to expand job and career opportunities for individuals with disabilities. GCI is working with the Des Moines Public School district to recruit at least 120 students with disabilities graduating from high school each year. “Goodwill will be working with private industry as partners in the rehabilitation process to identify career opportunities and the skills needed to perform such jobs,” said Boswell. “This program will be a win-win situation for the youth and businesses and will enable Goodwill to expand upon their successful training program.” Currently, Goodwill uses nationally recognized best practices to achieve success in job training, development and retention. Their training programs in retail, manufacturing and banking are industry-based and were developed with the guidance of local employers. |
