BONO MACK MEETS WITH LOCAL BUSINESS, COMMUNITY LEADERS ON ECONOMY

Palm Springs, CA, Oct 29 -

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today met with leadership from the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) to discuss the economic situation, housing crisis, clean energy potential in the region and other critical issues. As local business and community leaders, the group also discussed efforts to bring new businesses to the region and boost existing industries.

"This was a valuable opportunity to hear from local business and community leaders about how the current economic situation is affecting our region," said Bono Mack. "As a community, we need to band together to boost our economy and create new jobs in the Coachella Valley.

"Whether it is expanding clean, renewable energy, working to address the housing crisis or improving our transportation infrastructure, it is critical that we work on all levels to deal with the real problems facing local families and small businesses.

"We should capitalize on the many assets our region has - such as vast renewable energy potential and the tourism industry. By working together on the local, state and federal levels we can help revitalize our local economy and bring about new opportunities for desert residents, in addition to attracting more people to our community to live, work and visit."

Included in the meeting were such local business and community leaders as John Soulliere, President/CEO of CVEP; Kathy DeRosa, Mayor of the City of Cathedral City; Jim Ferguson, Chairman of the Board of CVEP/Palm Desert City Councilman; Al Schmidt, Council Member, City of Desert Hot Springs; Rich Ramhoff, Publisher, The Desert Sun; Dick Oliphant, President, Oliphant Enterprises; and Bill Powers, President, Pacific Western Bank.
