Springfield, Missouri -- Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt announced today that he is accepting applications from high school senior interested in attending the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the Merchant Marine Academy.
"Our nation’s service academies play an important role in the lives of many young adults," Blunt said. "These institutions sharpen the mind, strengthen character, refine leadership skills, and offer unmatched opportunities for the young men and women who choose to pursue this challenge."
The deadline for applying is November 1. A committee of Southwest Missouri residents will interview nominees and present their recommendations to Congressman Blunt for a formal nomination in December. Nominees are considered based leadership skills, academic achievement, physical aptitude and extracurricular activities. Applicants must be between the age of 17 to 23 by July 1, 2009, unmarried without dependents, and a legal resident of Missouri’s Seventh Congressional District.
