Congressman Blunt Unveils ‘Find More, Use Less, Invest in the Future’ Energy Plan; Kicks Off District Wide Energy Tour
7.18.2008

Springfield, Missouri – Today, Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt unveiled his plan to lower energy prices during a district wide tour to discuss the impact of increasing energy costs on families, seniors and businesses.

"Today, I’m kicking off a district-wide tour to unveil my plan to lower energy prices and bring relief to people across Southwest Missouri," said Blunt.  "What I’m putting forward is simple – we must find more energy, use less of it, and invest in the future."

Blunt’s plan is an all of the above energy plan that includes opening up domestic American energy like exploring for energy far off America’s coasts, promotes energy conservation and efficiency, and provides critical incentives into new technologies.

  "This all of the above proposal that opens up domestic, homegrown American energy – from oil and natural gas, to biofuels, nuclear energy and a host of other alternatives, while encouraging greater incentives for conservation and the development of new technologies," continued Blunt.  "This is the kind of balanced approach we need to bring down the price at the pump.  I will keep working with my colleagues in Congress to take action on this package as soon as possible."

What follows is Roy Blunt’s "Find More, Use Less, Invest in the Future" energy plan to bring down the price of energy:

American Energy:

Ø Open our Deep Water Ocean resources, which will provide an additional 3 million barrels of oil per day, as well as 76 trillion cubic feet of natural gas;

Ø Open Arctic Coastal Plain, which will provide an additional 1 million barrels of oil per day; and

Ø Allow development of our nation’s shale oil resources, which could provide an additional 2.5 million barrels of oil per day.

Conservation & Efficiency:

Ø Provide tax incentives for businesses and families that purchase more fuel efficient vehicles;

Ø Provide a monetary prize for the first person to develop a economically feasible super fuel efficient vehicle (100 mpg); and

Ø Provide tax incentives for businesses and homeowners who improve their energy efficiency.

New & Expanding Technologies:

Ø Spur the development of alternative fuels through government contracting;

Ø Extend for ten years the tax credit for alternative energy production including wind, solar, and hydro-power; and

Ø Eliminates barriers to the expansion of emission-free nuclear production.
