Rep. Miller to Present Purple Heart to Pittsburg Vietnam Veteran
REP. MILLER TO PRESENT PURPLE HEART TO PITTSBURG VIETNAM VETERAN
PITTSBURG, CA – On Saturday, January 20, 2007, U.S. Rep. George Miller will present the Purple Heart to Arnoldo Murillo, a veteran of the Vietnam War and lifetime Pittsburg resident, in a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Small World Park, Pittsburg. Murillo, who returned from the war in 1969, is finally being awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps after obtaining two eyewitness accounts of his service in battle and a severe injury in which he almost lost his leg. The event is open to the news media.

RODEO, CA – On Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 1:00 pm, U.S. Rep. George Miller will join Contra Costa County Supervisor Gayle Uilkema at a ceremony to award community development funds to five local non-profit and charitable organizations that serve the Rodeo-Crockett community. The event will be open to the media.

Miller, House Democrats, Approve New Direction on Energy
Legislation paves the way to invest $14 billion in efficiency, conservation, and renewable energy by reducing unjustified federal subsidies and tax breaks to large oil and gas companies
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The House of Representatives took an important step today toward energy independence and away from global warming by approving a bill to cut $14 billion in federal subsidies and tax breaks to large oil and gas companies and to save those funds instead for clean energy and conservation measures.
Rep. George Miller (D-Martinez) strongly supported the measure. He has argued for years that profitable oil markets are incentive enough for oil companies to explore and drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico without any federal subsidies,
“Oil and gas companies do not need excessive federal subsidies and tax breaks to make a profit in today’s oil market,” said Miller, a member of the Natural Resources Committee and chairman of the House Democratic Policy Committee.
