Administration's failure to enforece labr, immigration laws hurts working Americans

DEMOCRATS: ADMINISTRATION’S FAILURE
TO ENFORCE LABOR AND IMMIGRATION
LAWS HURTS WORKING AMERICANS

GAINESVILLE, GA. – Democratic members of Congress and labor market experts at a hearing today said that the Bush administration’s poor enforcement of labor and immigration laws has put the wages and jobs of millions of legal American workers at risk. Today’s hearing was held by the House Education and the Workforce Committee to examine the effects of immigration, both legal and illegal, on U.S. wages.

“Honest, hard-working Americans deserve to have their wages, benefits and workplace safety protected by the laws that Congress has already passed. Unfortunately, the enforcement of labor and immigration laws is being ignored by the Bush administration and working families suffer as a result. This Republican Congress is complicit in abandoning American workers by refusing to hold the White House accountable for their negligence,” said Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN), who attended today’s hearing.
