"I would have to write a book, if I was to write everything that I learned while interning for Congressman Cuellar's office in Washington D.C.  To me, "intern hours" were irrelevant; I enjoyed coming in early and staying as late as I could. Congressman Cuellar's office had so many things to offer to anyone that wanted them.  I really enjoyed living at the Tech House in D.C.--the fact that it was so close to the Capitol helped cut down transportation costs and allowed me to walk to work within five minutes.  I was exposed to so many hearings, briefings, and events that I cannot even name them all.  The most memorable were the Congressional Hispanic Caucus weekly meetings. Being able to sit and listen to some of the most influential Hispanics in the nation was at times unreal to me."

"My summer interning at Congressman Cuellar's office was a perfect introduction to the political world as well as the professional world. I learned as much about working in an office as I did about current policy subjects. Opportunities to attend hearings about my favorite policy issues and constant education on the inner workings of the government helped me understand the process of turning political positions into legislation. Congressman Cuellar's office was a friendly environment that fostered an invaluable academic and professional experience in government."

"My experiences up on Capitol Hill were nothing short of amazing. Working with Congressman Henry Cuellar and his dedicated staff truly gave me an insight to the inner-workings of our government.  From giving tours of the US capitol to sitting in on caucus meetings and even rubbing elbows with top government officials, I took home with me long-lasting memories. I was able to live at the dorms at George Washington University which were a only few stops away from Capitol Hill on the most efficient public transportation I've ever seen: the Metro. Not only did this subway system get me to work every single day, it connected me to all of the many attractions DC has to offer. Overall, the month that I spent working with the Congressman has greatly prepared me for what's to come, not only in my collegiate endeavors, but for life after college as well."

Summer Session 2, 2007

"My Congressional Intern experience provided me with the opportunity to learn first hand about the Legislative process and the way public policies are enacted at the national level. By interning in the office of Congressman Henry Cuellar, I have gained an invaluable insight by seeing the diligent work that members of Congress do and how the Legislative process functions. I can not feel more grateful and fortunate by having been assigned to the office of Congressman Cuellar. During these past four months, I found nothing in this office but a true spirit of hard work, team commitment, self-discipline, and dedication from every individual every single day. I feel proud to say that I was a part of this great group of people who are truly determined to serve people and their interests the best possible way. Congressman Cuellar and his staff truly gained my admiration and respect for their strong work ethic and effectiveness to put their constituents’ needs, and those of the American people, ahead of everything."

"It was an amazing honor to serve with so many remarkable people.  I take with me a greater understanding of policy and public service."

“The difference between memories and experiences is that memories can fade but experiences create who you are to become.  This internship is an experience and will not fade."
