Fortenberry Statement on the President's Expected Iraq Plan

Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry issued the following statement regarding the President's anticipated announcement of a new strategy in Iraq:

"I await the details of the President's plan. I believe that a major component of any new strategy should be a rapid increase of battle-ready Iraqi troops in Baghdad. Last week I joined 27 of my colleagues in sending a letter to the President urging the immediate deployment of Iraqi battalions -- trained and fully equipped -- into the heart of the battle. Iraqis must now fight for their own country."
