Living in the 13th DistrictFind out why 800,000 people call the 13th District their home. The 13th District is home to more than 800,000 residents. According to the 2000 census, the 13th grew faster than any other congressional district in Illinois over the preceding decade. In fact, two of our communities (Aurora and Naperville) number among the top twenty-five in the Census Bureau’s latest list of fastest-growing American cities.
Those moving into our District come from a wide array of cultures and ethnicities, adding to an already rich cultural pool. Recognizing the inherent value of such diversity, our communities continually seek to highlight the area’s unique cultural variety. As a result, our suburban villages and towns boast an exciting degree of worldliness not usually found outside America’s urban metropolises.
Our region’s school districts rank among the finest in the nation, reflecting a strong commitment to our children. In fact, Naperville, the largest city in the district (population 133,000), has been named by an independent Washington, D.C., research group, as the best city in the United States for raising children.
Whether for a picnic, sports, or just a stroll, residents of the 13th District frequently take advantage of our numerous parks and forest preserves. Some notable sites include the Morton Arboretum in Lisle and Naperville’s River Walk, a major reason the city was named by Walking Magazine the "Most Walkable City" in the United States. Shopping centers, golf courses, festivals, and concerts also provide exciting recreational outlets.
