PORTER APPLAUDS HHS GRANT AWARDED TO NEVADA DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Porter released the following statement regarding the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services receiving a Health and Human Services grant to provide resources for the parents of children in the Clark County child welfare system whose involvement is related to methamphetamine addiction:

“I am pleased that Nevada is the recipient of this grant to help combat the epidemic of methamphetamine abuse and child maltreatment.  This effort will help increase access to substance abuse treatment, integrate child welfare and improve the safety, permanency and well-being of children and families affected by methamphetamine abuse.”

The first installment of the five year grant was awarded today by Joan Ohl, the HHS Commissioner of the Administration for Children, Youth & Families in the amount of $1,000,000. Nevada is one of nine recipients of the grant money. The state will also be matching these funds at 15%. The federal grant amount will decline over 5 years with the state increasing their match amount each year.
