PORTER SUPPORTS ISRAEL PROJECT’S EFFORTS TO HALT IRAN’S NUCLEAR AMBITIONS

“I wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Israel Project to ensure that Israel, and the entire Middle-East, remains safe from the threat of a nuclear Iran. Iran is a country with the objective of annihilating the state of Israel and the Jewish people; we must therefore support and defend Israel’s ability to protect itself against Iran and rogue regimes such as Hezbollah and Hamas which seek her demise. 

“There are options, such as sanctions, to put real pressure on Iran. During the 109^th Congress I was an original co-sponsor of the Iran Freedom and Support Act, which not only sanctions investments of $20 million or more in Iran, but also sanctions sales of Weapons of Mass Destruction technology and also limits our engagement with nations that supply nuclear technology to Iran. We must begin to shape our foreign policy in constructive ways that look at holding accountable those sideline offenders that perpetually adopt policies that work against free and democratic societies such as Israel and the United States.

“Another key tool, divestment, has had tremendous impact in ending genocide in Darfur. I have supported divestment options in Nevada and have seen how the state has rallied together on this cause. I believe we must do the same against terrorists and their poisonous ideology of hate. I believe that a concerted and purposeful divestment effort against those supporting terrorist nations can and will be an effective method of delivering results in the near future. Eliminating our economic ties to a nation that financially and logistically supports terrorism gives us one more weapon in our arsenal toward bringing a peaceful end to the global war against terror and tyranny.
