Situated in the basement of the U.S. Department of Commerce Building, it is the nation's oldest aquarium, established in 1873 and at its present location since 1932. There are 50 tanks containing over 200 species of salt and fresh water fish, including piranha, shark, eel, and Japanese carp; also some endangered species. Now operated by the National Aquarium Society the admission charge goes to maintaining the aquarium. Membership is available which entitles you to free classes, a bi-monthly newsletter and discounts in some area pet stores. Group tours are available.

Also in this building is the Department of Commerce.
